Lucky Lions Perform in Frederick, MarylandWith a crash of cymbals and the thunder of a giant drum, three lions roared to life Sunday inside Francis Scott Key Mall on Buckeystown Pike.
The shimmering lion costumes were worn by dancers from a Washington troupe who came to help Frederick County ring in a new year.
Sunday marked the start of the year 4704 on the Chinese lunar calendar used in many parts of Asia. Lion dances are traditional elements in many lunar new year celebrations.

One Lucky Lion was temporarily challenged by a Kung Fu hero, in an effort to tame the lion's mischevious ways. The Lions ended the performance with three bows.
Members of the Hung Tao Choy Mei Leadership Institute raised funds over a two week period in late September. Three colorful Lucky Lions (two adult, and one children's lion) accompanied by a mobile Chinese drum enlivened Friday and Saturday evenings along the busy U Street NW thoroughfare.

Healing
Ourselves“Healing Ourselves- a Health & Wellness Call to Action†was held at the Historic Lincoln Theater on U Street, NW Washington, DC on Tuesday evening March 9, 2004. The purpose of the event was to inform and educate the public about alternative choices for healthcare, fitness and overall well being.
The purpose was also to motivate the public towards taking more personal responsibility for their health and well being. This event was free to the public and was the first in a series of events that the Hung Tao Choy Mei Leadership Institute presented at the Historic Lincoln Theater focusing on crucial issues affecting our community and our country.
Experts from holistic practices were invited and discussed the benefits of their practices. The alternative practitioners will consist of experts in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chiropractic Practice, and Herbs. The conventional side consisted of an MD discussing Nutrition and Diet, a Dentist, Cardiologists and an HIV expert. The third group will consist of a Sociologist and Psychologist.
This was not a "which method is better" debate, but an opportunity to present to the public choices for healthier living and identify underlying causes of stress and illness which we may not know about.
WPFW 89.3 FM was our media sponsor.
The Hung Tao Choy Mei Kung Fu Academy opened the evening with a traditional Chinese Lion Dance for prosperity and good will, and their students will performed a brief demonstration. Also performing were Kid Caramel and the First FAMM, and Head-Roc with “Noyeek the Grizzly Bear", two local progressive rap groups.
